With obesity rates in America continuing to rise, the United States Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) released updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans that place an emphasis on directly addressing the obesity epidemic in the U.S. The Guidelines make sweeping recommendations that call for reducing trans fat intake, replacing saturated fats with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and consuming less cholesterol. The Guidelines were last updated in 2005.
